Preventive & General Care
🔍

Dental Exams and Cleanings

Thorough check-ups and professional cleanings tailored for growing smiles. We assess tooth development, screen for early decay, and build positive dental habits from day one. Recommended every 6 months for most children.

🛡️

Children's Preventive Care

Comprehensive preventive services including fluoride treatments, dental sealants, nutritional counseling, and oral hygiene instruction -all designed to stop cavities before they start and set your child on the path to lifelong dental health.

💧

Fluoride Treatments

Professional fluoride applications strengthen tooth enamel and dramatically reduce cavity risk. Quick, painless, and highly effective -especially important for children at higher risk of decay. Applied at regular check-up visits.

🔒

Dental Sealants

Thin protective coatings painted onto the chewing surfaces of back teeth to seal out food and bacteria. Sealants can prevent up to 80% of cavities in children and are among the most cost-effective preventive treatments available.

📡

Digital X-rays

Low-radiation digital radiography helps us detect cavities between teeth, monitor tooth development, and assess jaw growth with up to 90% less radiation than conventional film. Fast, precise, and safe for children of all ages.

Fillings

Tooth-colored composite fillings restore teeth damaged by decay while blending seamlessly with natural tooth structure. We use gentle techniques and child-friendly language to make the filling experience as comfortable as possible.

Advanced Treatments
⚕️

Pulpotomy / Pulpectomy

When decay reaches the inner pulp of a baby tooth, a pulpotomy (partial nerve treatment) or pulpectomy (full nerve treatment) can save the tooth until it naturally falls out, preserving space for the permanent tooth and preventing pain and infection.

🔬

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)

A non-invasive liquid treatment that stops cavity progression without drilling or anesthesia. Ideal for very young children, those with dental anxiety, or children with special needs. SDF is applied directly to affected teeth in minutes and is especially effective for arresting early decay.

🧪

"Icon" Caries Infiltration

A revolutionary drill-free treatment that infiltrates and reinforces early-stage white spot lesions and interproximal cavities -halting decay in its tracks without removing healthy tooth structure. Particularly popular for treating early cavities and improving the appearance of white spots on front teeth.

😴

Sedation Dentistry

Safe, carefully monitored sedation options -including nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation -help anxious children or those needing extensive work receive dental care comfortably. Our team is specially trained to ensure a calm, safe experience for every child.

👅

Tongue-Tie (Frenectomy)

A tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) or lip-tie can affect feeding, speech development, and oral hygiene. We perform gentle frenectomy procedures to release restricted tissue, improving function and comfort. Early treatment can prevent complications in speech and dental development.

🛡️

Mouthguards

Custom-fitted athletic mouthguards protect your child's teeth during sports -far superior to store-bought options. We also create nightguards for children who grind their teeth (bruxism), protecting against enamel wear and jaw pain.

Orthodontics & Teen Smile Care
📐

Early Orthodontic Intervention

Phase 1 orthodontic treatment (typically ages 6 - 10) addresses jaw development, spacing issues, and bite problems before all permanent teeth erupt. Early intervention often simplifies or eliminates the need for more complex treatment later, guiding growth for better long-term outcomes.

🦷

Invisalign for Teens

Virtually invisible clear aligners designed specifically for teenagers. Invisalign Teen straightens teeth without metal brackets or wires, with compliance indicators and replacement aligners built in. Teens love the freedom to eat anything and maintain normal oral hygiene during treatment.

💎

Teen Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic options for teenagers including tooth whitening, composite bonding to repair chips, and smile makeovers appropriate for developing smiles. We help teens feel confident and proud of their appearance at a time when self-image matters most.

😬

Teeth Grinding (Bruxism)

Many children grind their teeth -especially at night. Left untreated, bruxism can wear down enamel, cause jaw pain (TMD), and disrupt sleep. We assess the cause, provide custom nightguards, and address contributing factors like stress or airway issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything parents need to know about bringing their child to our Santa Monica pediatric dental practice.

At what age should my child have their first dental visit?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first dental visit by your child's first birthday -or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing. Early visits help us monitor development, prevent decay, and establish a positive relationship with the dentist from the very start.
Do you offer sedation for anxious children or young toddlers?
Yes. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation to help children who are anxious, very young, or need more complex treatment. Our team is thoroughly trained in pediatric sedation safety, and we monitor every child closely throughout the procedure.
What is Silver Diamine Fluoride and when is it recommended?
Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a non-invasive liquid treatment that arrests cavity progression without drilling. It's an excellent option for very young children, those who cannot tolerate traditional treatment, or patients with special needs. The main consideration is that it stains the treated area dark -we'll discuss whether it's right for your child during the consultation.
Can my child with special needs receive dental care here?
Absolutely. We specialize in providing individualized, compassionate care for children with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, sensory processing differences, and other complexities. We take extra time to familiarize your child with the environment and adapt our techniques to meet their unique needs.
Is Invisalign Teen available at your practice?
Yes. We offer Invisalign Teen -clear, removable aligners designed specifically for adolescent orthodontic cases. They're virtually invisible, removable for meals and brushing, and come with compliance indicators. Many teens prefer them over traditional braces for both aesthetics and convenience.
What do I do if my child has a dental emergency?
Call us immediately at (310) 393-7766. For a knocked-out permanent tooth, keep it moist (milk or between the cheek and gum) and call right away -time is critical. For a knocked-out baby tooth, do not attempt to reimplant it; call us for guidance. We prioritize pediatric emergencies and will see your child as quickly as possible.
